The governance of UKAP is overseen by its Council; as laid out in its Articles of Association. The ABE Board comprises people with extensive experience and expertise in their field. Governance responsibilities for the operation and management of the Association reside fully and solely with the Board of Directors, led by its Chairman. The Directors are also the Corporate Members of UKAP.

The Senior Management Team provides day to day leadership for UKAP, overseeing a working environment which supports the effective achievement of goals and priorities, and maintaining all necessary standards of compliance and good practice. 

Chris Adams, Chief Executive

Chris is an experienced leader in the Further education and training sector, with a track record of building exceptional teams in some of the world’s most respected education brands, including AMA, Cambridge Assessment (part of the Newcastle Education System) and City & Guilds. Chris is passionate about the power of education to transform lives and the vital role of entrepreneurship as an engine for long-lasting economic growth. Chris’s focus is on creating value for UKAP customers and learners through distance learning, quality and learner experience. Chris is a non-executive director and board member at the UKAP.

Tony Smith, Director of Business Development &  CFO

Tony is a highly-experienced Commercial Director who is responsible for the management of UKAP’s strategic and operational commercial activities globally. Prior to UKAP, Tony held senior Business Development roles at USAP Education. Tony brings specific expertise in engaging and influencing at the executive level, supporting large corporate clients, governments, NGOs, colleges and other key stakeholders across numerous international markets, including many of the world’s fastest-growing economies.

Tony is committed to building on UKAP’s long and proud history of reducing inequality within, and amongst countries and in delivering on UKAP’s mission to provide learners across the globe with the highest quality trans-national education experiences, allowing them to achieve success and prosperity for themselves and their communities.

Susan Harrision – Head of Finance

Susan is a USAP qualified accountant with extensive experience working in finance in various international markets and industries. Originally from South Wales, Susan feels strongly about providing accessible, affordable education to emerging markets, which provides the ability to transform the lives of learners around the world.  Having obtained an MSc in Accountancy (University of London), Susan is keen to utilise these skills to help deliver UKAP’s strategy of being the pioneer in global business education.


Kathy Wilkinson – Head of Marketing

Kathy has been involved in education marketing since 2002, initially working for Newcastle University.  She finds the sector rewarding and loves the challenge and variety that UKAP offers.  Her favorite part of the role is hearing of the success of members around the world and knowing her work supports future generations of learners by raising awareness of the skills they will bring to the workplace.

Before working in education, Kathy spent many years in professional marketing., Warner the Hedgehog.  Her past successes include launching brands to become the UK's biggest-selling exercise video of its time and winning Awards of Excellence for her campaigns.

Kathy is also qualified in Marketing and, prior to taking the helm as managing editor of UKAP’s Focus (previously Student Focus) magazine, has written articles for national consumer publications and edited business advice books.


 Craig Barton– Director of Policy and Awarding

Craig is Passionate about vocational and further education and an experienced leader in the skills and awarding sector, Craig has worked and held senior roles in assessment for awarding organisations for over 25 years, including being Global Director of Learning for the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment, Head of Policy and Skills at The Institute of the Motor Industry, and many years prior to that at UKAP Examinations Board.  Craig has also been a non-executive Director for the Federation of Awarding Bodies.

Craig is responsible for the product and quality directorate at UKAP, which includes all of the qualification products and the ongoing quality assurance of all of UKAP’s systems and processes so that we can ensure that any certificate issued means something.  In addition, Craig is also UKAP’s Responsible Officer to Ofqual and the other International Regulators which UKAP closely works with.
